Bryan DeWees, better known as “WEEZY", has been a skating instructor for over 10 years. Bryan is the Director of Player Development for Weezy’s Competitive Edge Skating. He brings a new EDGE when developing hockey programs in Minnesota. Players train with Weezy because of his unique teaching style, personal rapport, inventive drills and skating background. He combines his knowledge and skills to help players move to a more advanced level of play. He knows the game of hockey and the importance of skating technique. Bryan has trained players in the NHL, AHL, NCAA Division I, NCAA Division III, USHL, NAHL and High School. He has his level 3 certification with USA Hockey coaching education program. He finds it rewarding to watch his players develop in all areas of their game.
Player Development Trainer
TJ’s experience on the ice ranges from playing Division 1 hockey at Mankato State, professional hockey in the US and over 10 years professional hockey in Europe. During his off season he enjoys coming back to Minnesota to train young hockey players. TJ has worked with well known hockey training companies, University Camps and Elite scouting camp.TJ brings his specaility of stick handling and shooting to our programs and private lessons. Competitive Edge is excited to announce that TJ will be a Head Instructor with Competitive Edge.
From Rochester, Minnesota, Jake Taylor will bring his professional defense skills and experience to Competitive Edge. In 2002 the New York Rangers drafted Taylor #177 in the 6th round. Jake loves working with kids and is excited to become an instructor with Competitive Edge.

GDI
Matt Millar has been coaching goaltenders for over 10 years. For the past two years Matt was a scout for the Phoenix Coyotes of the National Hockey League along with coaching goaltenders in Minnesota and North Dakota. He has held goaltending coaching positions with the Bethel Royals (MIAC), Omaha Lancers (USHL) and the Sioux Falls Stampede (USHL), Roseau High School, Hill-Murray High School, and Centennial High School.
Matt was part of Bethel University’s first MIAC Championship in 06-07’ as well as Hill-Murray High School’s Minnesota State High School Championship in 07-08’.
Matt has been with GDI since 2003. During that time Matt has directly learned from Ian Clark, goaltending coach for the Vancouver Canucks, at a number of National camps and recently coached alongside Ian Clark, at the GDI Pro-Consulting sessions. Matt will also coach alongside Ian at the USA National Prospect Camp held this year at the Schwan’s Super Rink in Blaine, MN.
Matt has helped evaluate and coach a number of Advanced 15,16 and 17 Minnesota Hockey teams and works along side a number of associations to guide development for all levels of their youth hockey. He lives in Hugo, MN.
GDI
Mitch Baker has been coaching goaltenders since 2003. He is currently the goaltending coach at Bethel University. Mitch graduated from Bethel University in 2008 with a degree in physics. Shortly after graduation Mitch began training goaltenders year-round with GDI.
In 2006, Mitch first worked alongside Matt Millar and Ian Clark (Vancouver Canucks, NHL) at a GDI Regional Camp. From that point on, Mitch has become more instrumental in his role with GDI-Minnkota and has been a key instructor in all of the region’s camps and clinics, and all other training services. Mitch has also been involved in evaluating and coaching in several facets of the USA Hockey's Advanced / High Perfromance programs.
Mitch brings forth a great knowledge and passion for the position of goaltending. He has experience developing and challenging goaltenders of all ages and skill levels through the art and discipline that has made GDI-Minnkota a top choice for serious goaltenders.
Daren has managed and directed several elite programs, including director for the J Robinson Camps. He has been coaching at Woodbury High School as Assistant Varsity and Head JV Coach the last 2 years. Daren is also a level 5 certified coach with USA Hockey.

Matt brings his expertise as one of our strength and conditioning coaches. He has trained some of the top players over the last 4 years, including NHL players. Matt has been involved with the Minnesota Select Festivals and was a High School Coach at Bloomington Kennedy High School.
